Adhigam : Learning to be a Special Parent by Aradhana Kaul Kathju | Book Review

Summary:

Viranshi began calling out to all of us with her frail voice. Ma-ma, Bah-pah, Ba-bah, Da-dah, Na-mah, a yah at the age of a. Then one day she stopped. Many moons ago, I noticed my little haly's foot quiver uncontrollably. I was fortunate to have a doctor in the family, my father in-law who happened to be visiting. He moticed scissoring in the little one's feet as well, this meant that her feet crossed one over the other at the ankles. This was unusual and alarming as at no months, the bones were developing well and this shored inconsistency. We had our first appointment with the concerned doctor only to he told that the baby would need an MRI brain scan. This is the story of Viranshi and the journey of learning to be a special parent.

With baby arrives a lot of responsibilities, expectations and worrying, whether you will be good father/mom or not. There is nothing better than being quality prepared and having a clear strategy before the little one will see the first light of the world. This little book is a wonderful gift to parents of children with special needs. It is written in an easy to read and understanding manner which is well researched and engaging.

It is chock-full of practical information that would be useful from the day your child is born. Each chapter of this book is a milestone conquered by them and turned into precious information on how to navigate these places where no one wants to go, but where some of us may find ourselves for the love of another human being, which life we have been entrusted with.

This book is a treasure chest for parents facing the never asked for and always daunting path of raising a child with severe special needs. I highly recommend this book to anyone that is trying to navigate the unknown of raising a special needs child. This is also great book for all single parents.
